Intro to My Journey with the Anet A8 3d Printer

Its been a long time coming, but I finally got around to building my Anet A8. I've been around 3d printers for a long time now, have used them semi-extensively and thought I knew a thing or two about them. I'm the founder and President of the Anchorage Makerspace and have helped keep many of the machines we have in the shop running, but have not built a 3d printer from scratch before.

I realize I'm jumping on the Anet A8 bandwagon a few years late. There choice of getting an Anet A8 came from recommendations from members of the Anchorage Makerspace, and we even hosted a week long build workshop for about ten people to build and get these machines up and running. I had missed that workshop myself, so here I am now.

The important thing to note is that for any machine you purchase, you need to check for support forums, make sure there are a lot of guides, support pages and forums eg. on reddit, youtube, instructables, etc for trouble shooting issues you may have.

I'm creating this blog and this series of blogs to document my personal journey building, upgrading and maintaining my Anet A8. I generally try to avoid duplicating information from other sources on the internet to keep the noise down, but at the same time I've not seen a good comprehensive and "personal" view of the "journey" an Anet A8 owner would go through.

So in this blog, I plan on documenting problems I encounter and ways I've solved them, as well as my personal justification for the decisions I've made in upgrading the machine.

As I write this my Anet A8, "Codename: Borg" is 2 weeks old and has been printing exceptionally out of the box with some minor, but important issues I've had to work through, understand and solve.

I'll be breaking out each issue and its solution into individual posts, to help you, me and the internet get people straight to the answers they may be looking for. So here goes - thanks for visiting and feel free to email me if you have questions.
